Anchor Boys

Anchor Boys is for boys age 5 to 8. They meet at Ash Village Hall from 5:30pm to 6:30pm during term time. During the hour various activities take place including craft, games, a programme of varied badgework and listening to bible stories. The badgework provides an opportunity to learn all sorts of useful things for daily life.

The Anchor Boys also attend "Fun days" organised by the Battalion which allows the boys to meet and interact with boys from other companies.

This group is currently suspended due to low numbers. We are keen to resume the group as soon as possible. If you have a son or daughter in school years 1, 2 or 3 who may be interested in joining, please get in touch.

Junior Section

Junior Section is for boys age 8 to 11. They meet at Ash Village Hall from 6:30pm to 8:00pm Friday evenings during term time. The boys follow a programme of activities and over the three years work to gain awards. The badgework is divided into five sections: Body (fit for fun), Mind (think and do), Spirit (God and me), Community (me and my world) and Creativity (make and do) which provides scope for a wide range of activities. Also on a Friday evening time is devoted to drill, devotions, and last but definitely not least playing games. All Junior Section Boys are given the opportunity to attend the Battalion Junior Camp which is usually very popular, and which all the boys who attend seem to enjoy immensely.

Company Section

Company Section is for boys age 11 to 14. They meet at Ash Village Hall from 8:00pm to 9:30pm on Fridays during term time. The boys follow a programme of structured badgework which tries to provide them with useful skills and knowledge for later life. Time is also spent on physical activities (most popular are football, unihoc and gymnastics). We continue to develop the drill started in Junior Section and have discussions on various topical issues. Boys find that it is good to devote part of one evening a week to spending time relaxing and having fun in the company of friends, away from their possibly chaotic school lives.

All have the opportunity to attend the Battalion Camp which runs over a weekend in June and includes two nights sleeping in tents and opportunities to take part in a wide range of sports and activities.

Senior Section

Senior Section is for young men age 15 to 18. They meet at Ash Village Hall from 8:00pm to 9:30pm on Fridays during term time alongside the Company Section. The boys continue a programme of structured badgework culminating with the Queens Badge. Time is also spent on physical activities (most popular are football, unihoc and gymnastics). Members who are identified as having leadership qualities are offered the opportunity to take part in a series of residential leadership training weekends which give a good grounding for future management roles in life. It is hoped that these members will help with the running of the Anchor Boys, Junior and Company Sections. Boys find that it is good to devote part of one evening a week to spending time relaxing and having fun in the company of friends, away from their possibly chaotic school lives.
